How do we get into God's Salvation/Kingdom?
Q.
Before we can give ourselves to Christ, what must we do first?
A.
The first thing we must do before we follow Christ is to do as outlined by the Book (not religion).
FIRST, SEEK THE KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
If you were going to another country to live, what would you do first? Jump on a plane and go and set up shop? No, the first thing you would do is gain some knowledge about the country and its leadership. You would then look at the laws to see if they work for you. Are the laws/righteousness fair? This is called seeking (finding out about the new country/kingdom). Now, if you decide you want to live in this country/Kingdom, you follow what the leader says. And the leader says.
(John 14:15 [KJV])
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
When we first find out (seek) about the King, His Kingdom, and His righteousness, we are in a position to make an informed decision. In religion we are told to give our heart to the Lord first with little or no teaching - Altar-call. God wants us to understand Him first and then choose to follow.

Next Q2.
If we agree to love Him and follow His commandments (John 14:15), what is this agreement called?
A2.
It is called a covenant. With Christ it is called the new covenant.
In the old covenant that was mediated by Moses, here is how the agreement was made.
After Moses read the law, the people said...
Exod 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.
TO ENTER INTO HIS NEW COVENANT. You must be in His Covenant to be saved.
After we have sought the Kingdom and His righteousness, and have chosen to follow the Lord, we must enter into the New Covenant. This begins with repentance (turning from our sins) and committing to love Him by keeping His commandments. In prayer, we declare to Him: “We will do all that You have commanded.” From that point on, we walk forward in faith, holding fast to His Word and living in obedience to His commandments.
We will not always get our salvation at the same time (Go watch Pres 3) . As we grow with Him in commitment and knowledge, in time, He will give us His comforter. As long as you are given the Comforter, He will never leave you or forsake you. The MANY that were called never got the Comforter. They never built a loving relationship with the King.
Here the Comforter/Holy Spirit is given after the request to the Father is made by the Son.
John 14:15-17 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
